Physician Assistants

Physician assistants are health care professionals that are licensed and credentialed to practice medicine under the supervision of a physician. As part of their responsibilities, physician assistants conduct physical exams, assist in surgery, and write prescriptions. Physician assistants also order and interpret tests in the scope of diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. Within the physician-PA relationship, physician assistants have autonomy in medical decision making and can provide a wide range of diagnostic and treatment options.

Physician assistants are trained in the same medical model as physicians. They undergo training in a condensed time frame and then can further enhance their training in a residency program or with their physician supervisors. Physician assistants must also pass a national medical certification board and recertify every six years with additional 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years. All the physician assistants who practice at Aspen Orthopaedic Associates are nationally certified.
