Mark Purnell, MD & Emily Schrobilgen, PA-C Thank You
Dear Dr. Purnell & Emily,
Five weeks out from that fateful day we met, and the lingering benefits of our encounter are evident. I still have two legs, one pretty similar to the other. Wounds are nearly healed, pain subsiding, and function returning; with visions of dancing and hiking someday soon!
Thank you for bringing all your talents for my benefits.
Sincerely,
Reed McCulloch

The Aspen Time February 24, 2010 - Quality Foot Care
Dear Editor:
I just had an experience that is so refreshing, I just had to write so that this valley would know there is a very competent podiatrist here — his name is Dr. Armstrong, in Basalt.
As a senior I was experiencing pain in my feet. My first visit to Dr. Armstrong solved the problem. Just one visit! He diagnosed the problem in a few minutes, then fashioned a shoe insert right in front of me that solved the problem. No need for more visits, x-rays or delays. He is so practical and efficient that I was amazed.
Thanks, Dr. Armstrong!

Concussion Study Thank You
Dear Aspen Orthopaedic Associates Doctors & Aspen Sports Medicine Foundation:
I've had 3 concussions in my life - one from a bad car wreck at 16 and the other two from skiing or skiing-related activities.
I started skiing at 18, mostly in New Mexico as I grew up in Texas. I moved to Colorado in 2000 to start Grad School. In January of 2001, I sustained my first skiing-related concussion at Breckenridge. Not wearing a helmet, and not actually skiing, I loaded on to an old 2-seater lift. As I turned to look over my left shoulder to see where the chair was, the support bar of the chair lift hit me square in my left temple. I flew forward, but not off the chair, one ski stuck in the snow and up I went, with a bangin' headache and one ski.
I got to the top and the liftee helped me off; he had been radio'd. I continued to ski the rest of the day, not really feeling any immediate ill effects from my head injury.
Later that day, I was tired and groggy, and went to bed. The next day - I was sick, sicker than I had ever felt. I went to take a shower at 5pm and felt like I was going to pass out. My husband took me to the ER and sure enough, a CT scan revealed I had a moderate concussion.
The second concussion was from a bad fall at Loveland in 2002. I basically hit some slick ice and "garage sale-d" down the hill. My goggles literally exploded, and all my gear went its separate ways. I lost both skis, poles, goggles and hat. After I regained my gear, I stood up and immediately knew something was not right. I drove back home to Denver immediately and took it easy the next few days. I didn't get as nauseous and sick as I did with the first concussion, but I could tell my head wasn't right.
That weekend I purchased a helmet and have skied and mountain biked with one ever since then. I don't even think twice about not wearing a helmet.
I share my story with everyone - in that even a sport like skiing can cause serious head injuries. Even casual skiers like myself, not the high-end racers and freeskiers that you are working with, can get a concussion from something as simple as a lift chair!!
I worked at Gart Sports for almost 5 years, so I had lots of folks to preach my story to.
Thank you for your work and spreading the word about head injury and skiing/snowboarding. I'll be interested in following your results as you gather data over the next few seasons.
Sincerely,
L.R.G of Denver, CO
